Your destiny depends on you giving an honest answer to this question. Do you truly want God’s will for your life? It is the difference between an anointed life and a successful life. Success does not equal anointing, although anointing does bring success. You must define success according to biblical standards. Most often than not, most believers equate monetary gain and/or popularity with God’s favor, blessings and/or anointing. We think when something “good” happens it is automatically from God, but define good. God’s definition of good is always according to His word, will and plan. This is why we must stay prayerful and in His word. If God is trying to teach me stability and right when I get settled an offer of a new job paying much more money comes along, that requires me to travel; is that from God? You could also be making six figures, living “The American Dream” and God requires you to give it up and move to a small town to Pastor a small community church and people are looking at you like you are CRAZY!!! The bottom line is, God moves as He wills. We can’t measure the anointing and blessing of God by how much or how little we may or may not have. It just does not work that way. We must seek God and be humble to HIS will. He is the potter and we are the clay(Romans 9:19-21. He may decide to take from one and give to another, because only He knows our middle and end. We can’t see all that is ahead for us or know the total personal purpose of our lives in Him. Do not confuse sowing and reaping with God’s agreement for your choices. His law of sowing and reaping is universal. It rains on the just and the unjust.
“7 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. 8 For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life.” -Galatians 6:7-8
That means whatever you spend your time, energy, money, talent and passions on, good or bad, you WILL see a harvest, whether God is in it or not. Therefore, I pray that whatever you are doing, you are doing it unto The Lord, for His glory and not for your own. We do not have to be confused about what we are called to “do.” In the very least as a believer we are ALL called to represent Christ and preach the gospel, reconciling men to Christ for the glory of God in all the earth. Your call is the ministry of reconciliation.
“17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. 18 Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, 19 that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation.
20 Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God. 21 For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” -2 Corinthians 5:17-21
So, does your passions, gifts, talents, lifestyle and yearnings all hinge on this call to you from God? I pray and hope so, your destiny depends on it. Yes it is a challenge not to get sucked into the culture and chase what the world is chasing, but be prayerful and stick with Christ. I pray that you decide you want all and everything God says in His word He has for you and never settle for anything less, praying that His will be done in your life. Then you will make your way prosperous and then you will have good success! Joshua 1:8
